内容記述 | This article reviews two decades of continuous efforts to develop and implement English reading and listening courses within the Liberal Arts curriculum at Hiroshima University. Focusing on two core courses, Communication IB (reading-focused) and IIB (listening-focused), this paper examines curriculum design, instructional practices, and evaluation frameworks. Over the years, these courses have been shaped by pivotal institutional initiatives, including the Campus Ubiquitous Project (2005–2009), the English Proficiency Working Group (2011–present), the Top Global University Project (2014–2023), and spread of COVID-19 infection and beyond. Key innovations include the integration of ICT-based tools, such as CALL classrooms and web-based training materials, to support both in-class and self-directed learning. Common teaching materials and evaluation criteria have enabled consistency across multiple classes, ensuring standardized learning outcomes. The study also highlights the challenges and outcomes of adapting to institutional changes, such as curriculum revisions, team teaching, and the transition to a quarter-based academic calendar. The paper concludes by reflecting on the sustainability of these practices and their implications for future English education at Hiroshima University. Through this analysis, the study provides valuable insights into managing large-scale, skill-specific courses in higher education settings. |
