| 内容記述 | High school admission is particularly crucial for children with foreign background, since it directly impacts their lives, residence, and works in Japan. However, previous studies and reports of their high school admission rates were limited in terms of methods and subjects, so that a whole picture of this issue is still unclear. The present study examined high school admission rates in children with foreign background (N = 153), including those moved to Japan past middle-school age, based on 15-year records of volunteer activities in City A of Chugoku region. As a result, while around 95% of the children who moved to Japan before or within middle-school ages, or graduated from Japanese middle school, were enrolled in high school, it was the case for only around 25% of the children at past middle-school age or had not graduated from Japanese middle school. The present resulted showed a critical role of Japanese middle school that bridges children with foreign background to high school, which must be guaranteed maximally through efforts of government, schools, and parents. | |||||||||||||||||
