This paper reports on teaching practices in elementary and middle schools in the United States. Participants included two graduate students and two in-service teachers. They observed classes in public elementary and middle schools in North Carolina and planned and implemented English classes in Japanese society and culture. The titles of the classes were as follows: 1) Let us try Suminagashi! 2) let us challenge KENDAMA’s performance, 3) let us make Chigiri-e with Washi, 4) let us enjoy playing koma, the Japanese spinning top ! 5) Let us enjoy the paper sumo!. Their main outcomes were as follows. i) They developed practical teaching skills by teaching students from different cultural backgrounds. ii) They gained the ability to design, implement, and evaluate programs to promote global partnerships. Furthermore, they were highly motivated for future teaching development. |
