| 内容記述 | Dignity is fundamentally something that the ruled give to their ruler, and it is a title or a medal given to him in praise of their ruler as supreme and eminent. This is a relationship of domination at its root. As such, the world’s fastest runner or Miss World cannot be honored with dignity. Dignity requires the act of bowing down to the ruler. Human dignity is established in humans as the supreme and outstanding ruler over nature. Since nature itself cannot bestow the title of dignity, humans must do so themselves. It is, in essence, self-praise. Human dignity and the dignity of gods or kings are fundamentally the same, consisting of the worship of the ruled toward the supreme ruler. However, human dignity, in actual situations, has a different aspect. Each individual’s dignity is derived from the shared dignity of humankind. The issue arises when the dignity of weaker individuals is disregarded, often because they lack the power to demand it. It is crucial that human dignity be recognized for the weak, without discrimination. In the case of gods and kings, dignity looks upward and is ascribed to the supreme in the vertical direction. However, with human dignity, individuals usually ascribe dignity to each other. This leads to horizontal dignity: furthermore, it is necessary to pay attention to the downward direction and ascribe dignity to the weak. | |||||||||
