The purpose of this study was to design and implement a swimming class aimed at developing water safety skills among high school students and to evaluate its effectiveness. A total of 75 first year students from X High School participated in 11 hours of swimming lessons. The lessons incorporated activities to improve water safety skills, such as back floating, towing, and the "dolphin breaststroke" technique. Skill tests were conducted during the first and eleventh hours of the program: (1) a maximum 3-minute floating test and (2) a 25-meter breaststroke test. Results showed a significant improvement in both tests. The improvement in the maximum 3-minute floating test can be attributed to the inclusion of water safety training activities in every lesson. Additionally, the improvement in the 25-meter breaststroke test can be attributed to the incorporation of the dolphin breaststroke technique, which was aimed at enhancing water safety skills. |
