The purpose of this study was to create an activity-based educational program to foster independent living for students with intellectual disabilities. For this purpose, the authors focused on the activities that value self and others among students. Data collection was conducted at an Elementary School and a Junior High School. A four-point Likert scale questionnaire and teacher observations of students were administered to measure the students’ competencies to care for themselves and others. Data analysis was conducted based on the responses to the questionnaire and the records on students’ behaviors. The results showed that students' competencies of caring for themselves and others increased throughout this study, indicating that this educational program was effective for students with intellectual disabilities. |
