In this study, various forms of interaction—such as exchanges with international students, visits with children from Mihara Kindergarten and a elementary school, daily contact with children and families from different cultural backgrounds, and multi‑age activities—provided opportunities for children to notice cultural differences and enjoy accepting them. Throughout these experiences, children naturally learned from one another, sharing play, language, and ideas in ways that allowed cultural understanding to grow from everyday moments. At the same time, it became clear that teachers sometimes viewed “culture” too narrowly. Moving forward, it will be important to recognize the many kinds of culture present in children’s daily lives and to thoughtfully incorporate these perspectives into everyday practice. |
