| 内容記述 | Constructed posthumously from his lecture notes, John Langhsaw Austin’s How to Do Things with Words has had a major impact on linguistics in the field of pragmatics and is the most cited work of post-1945 British philosophy. However, Austin himself noted that the lectures had boring and repetitious passages (Rowe, 2023). It seems likely that had he had time to convert the lectures into a published book, he would have made careful revisions and edits. The aim of my paper is to consider how the core ideas in How to Do Things with Words can be presented in a straightforward and accessible way to university students. There are three main parts to the paper. In the first, the core ideas of the book are summarised. In the second part, problems with the text are examined. I consider whether terms are divorced from their common usage, an example being written utterances. I examine some of the gaps, particularly in his labelling of misfires and abuses, and also in integrating misunderstandings into Austin’s initial infelicities for performatives as well as ambiguities and redundancies in some of the key terms. In the third part, I sketch an outline of the way Austin’s process of thought and key ideas can be illustrated as part of a course through a set of tasks for students to create interaction and discussion in a way that is closer to a seminar than a lecture course. |

| 内容記述 | ジョン・ラングショー・オースティンの死後，彼の講義ノートをもとに出版された『言語と行為』は，語用論研究に多大な影響を与えただけでなく，1945年以降イギリス哲学の分野において被引用回数が最も多い著作でもある。一方で，オースティン自身は，講義に退屈で反復的な箇所が存在したことに言及している。もし出版に向けて講義内容を整理する時間があったならば，彼は入念に修正と編集を行っていただろう。本稿の目的は，『言語と行為』の核心をなす考えを，大学生に簡潔明瞭なかたちで提示する方法を検討することにある。 本稿の内容は大きく次の三つに分けられる。はじめに，本書の重要な部分を簡潔にまとめる。次に，本文の問題点を検証する。術語が一般的な用法から逸脱していないか，特に「書かれた発話」との関連において考える。「不発（misfires）や「悪用（abuses）」という分類上の不備，「遂行文（performatives）が成立する」ために障害となる「誤解」を組み込んだ点，そして主な術語についてその曖昧さや冗長性といった問題について検討する。最後に，講義というよりは演習に近い形式の授業の中で，学生間のやりとりや議論を産み出す一連の課題を通して，オースティンの思考過程と核心的観念をいかに具現化できるかについて概説する。 |
