| 内容記述 | Research on curriculum and instruction has focused primarily on metacognitive skills. Similarly, in science education, most studies on metacognition have concentrated on metacognitive skills. Furthermore, regarding the assessment of metacognition, concerns have been raised about the validity of the off-line methods traditionally used for measurement. However, most studies pointing out these issues have focused on metacognitive skills, and it remains unclear whether similar challenges arise when measuring metacognitive knowledge. Therefore, this study focused on the Likert scale, an off-line method commonly used for measuring metacognitive skills, and examined the validity of a questionnaire method using a Likert scale to measure children’s metacognitive knowledge in elementary school science. In this verifi cation, we conducted a survey combining the Likert scale with open-ended responses to examine the validity of the questionnaire method. The results revealed weak correlations between scores based on diff erent response methods, indicating challenges in the validity of questionnaire surveys using the Likert scale for elementary school students. Furthermore, while the content reliability of the open-ended responses was high, it was suggested that improving the wording of the questions is necessary, as it is diffi cult to measure multiple metacognitive knowledge components with a single item. |
