| 内容記述 | This study examines teachers’ learning and autonomy within “Community Studies by Schools Connection,” an online collaborative learning initiative in Higashihiroshima City. Unlike conventional professional development in Japan, often criticized for weak links to practice and heavy burdens on teachers, this program connects schools with university faculty, students, and local offi cials to co-design and implement lessons on regional issues, aiming to support both student learning and teacher growth. A 2024 survey of 87 elementary school teachers yielded 48 responses. Teachers reported notable gains in regional understanding and in rethinking the aims and methods of social studies. Participation was justifi ed in terms of student benefi ts, while some teachers emphasized professional gains such as original approaches to lesson design and reduced preparation. Yet many did not adapt their unit plans, showing uneven autonomy. The study contributes by clarifying achievements and challenges, proposing improvements, and highlighting the potential to reconceptualize professional development as a collaborative, cocreated process. |
