| 内容記述 | This study clarifi es how institutional boundaries are formed in Chinese kindergartens under administrative systems, based on narratives from Chinese early childhood teachers through the cross-cultural perspective of Japanese early childhood teachers. Using a multivocal visual ethnography approach, we showed video footage of a typical day in a Chinese kindergarten to teachers from both countries and conducted focus group interviews. Questions and interpretations from Japanese teachers, unfamiliar with similar systems, prompted refl ective responses from Chinese teachers. The results reveal that Chinese teachers internalize system rules̶such as administrative inspections, ranking systems, and role divisions̶as natural and necessary. These frameworks shape daily practices and kindergarten structures, creating boundaries between: administrative authorities and kindergartens, teaching and auxiliary staff , and kindergartens of diff erent ranks, while infl uencing resource distribution and public recognition. These boundaries are not simply products of policy but rooted in cultural values emphasizing order, hierarchy, and discipline. The cross-cultural dialogue provided new insights into how such boundaries are culturally maintained and normalized in China’s early childhood education system. |
