| 内容記述 | This study reviewed research on critical reading in secondary education in overseas literature since 2000 from the perspectives of (1) theoretical backgrounds and frameworks, (2) the types and content of texts analyzed, and (3) the analytical methods employed. The study aims to provide insights for teaching critical reading of essays in Japanese high schools. Critical reading research has employed two frameworks: “Critical Reading” and “Critical Literacy.” “Critical Reading” includes “texts within the same genre,” “acquiring practical skills specifi c to a genre,” and “instruction based on learners’ knowledge and experience,” whereas “Critical Literacy” comprises “combining texts across genres,” “cultivating critical awareness and promoting social justice,” and “critiquing learners’ preconceptions and stereotypes.” Two insights emerged regarding the construction of pedagogy for critical essays: identifying the author’s critical thinking perspective and then reconstructing the text from the learner’s viewpoint and continually scrutinizing both the perspectives missing from the text and their own inherent biases. | |||||||||||||
