| 内容記述 | Amphipods are small crustaceans widely distributed in marine, brackish, freshwater, and terrestrial environments, with more than 9,500 species known worldwide and over 600 in Japan. Because of their high diversity, taxonomic identifi cation remains diffi cult. In this study, we propose practical methods for observing and recording amphipod coloration in life, which is a useful character for identification and educational purposes. We introduce procedures for transporting live specimens, anesthesia techniques using clove oil and freshwater, and photographic methods to document coloration. As case studies, amphipods collected from the coast of Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan, are presented with representative photographs. These methods facilitate easier identification and highlight amphipods as promising organisms for biodiversity education. | |||||||||||||
