We considered the case study of Fumio Nagaoka, an elementary school teacher attached to Nara Women’s University in Japan, to analyze the records of his practices. The results revealed that social studies teachers develop practical knowledge by overcoming practical challenges through encounters with children’s learning methods. In addition, the formation of practical knowledge can be described by creating a chronology of the social studies teacher’s personal history from practice records, identifying the situations in which teachers solve practical problems, and capturing the changes in class tendencies before and after these situations, by comparing the lesson structure. This process demonstrates the long-term and autonomous process of curriculum adjustment as social studies teachers become more familiar with learners’ understanding through their daily educational practices. This process has not been described in the traditional narrative approach.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_1617186643794":{"attribute_name":"Publisher","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"The International Social Studies Assosiation","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_1617186702042":{"attribute_name":"Language","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_1617187056579":{"attribute_name":"Bibliographic Information","attribute_value_mlt":[{"bibliographicIssueDates":{"bibliographicIssueDate":"2025-03-31","bibliographicIssueDateType":"Issued"},"bibliographicNumberOfPages":"29","bibliographicPageEnd":"31","bibliographicPageStart":"3","bibliographicVolumeNumber":"14","bibliographic_titles":[{"bibliographic_title":"The Journal of Social Studies Education in Asia","bibliographic_titleLang":"en"}]}]},"item_1617258105262":{"attribute_name":"Resource Type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_1617265215918":{"attribute_name":"Version Type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_1617605131499":{"attribute_name":"File","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2025-09-09"}],"filename":"JSSEA_14_3.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"4.8 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"objectType":"fulltext","url":"https://hiroshima.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2041131/files/JSSEA_14_3.pdf"},"version_id":"1e70b288-a53d-4f61-afd6-9fd88e483cac"}]},"item_1617620223087":{"attribute_name":"Heading","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"SPECIAL ISSUE: Teacher Education and Social Studies","subitem_heading_language":"ja"},{"subitem_heading_banner_headline":"SPECIAL ISSUE: Teacher Education and Social Studies","subitem_heading_language":"en"}]},"item_title":"Formation of Social Studies Teachers’ Practical Knowledge Through Empirical Analysis of Practice Records: Beyond the Methodological Characteristics of Narrative Approaches","item_type_id":"40036","owner":"83","path":["1757039566296"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2025-09-09"},"publish_date":"2025-09-09","publish_status":"0","recid":"2041131","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Formation of Social Studies Teachers’ Practical Knowledge Through Empirical Analysis of Practice Records: Beyond the Methodological Characteristics of Narrative Approaches"],"weko_creator_id":"83","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2025-09-09T07:20:21.630270+00:00"}
