| 内容記述 | From the Muromachi period through the Edo period, a great number of paintings depicting sceneries of Kyoto, collectively called Rakuchū Rakugai zu (Scenes in and around the capital),were created. Among them,this paper focuses on the "Funaki family’s old collection of Scenes in and around the capital" (a pair of screens, hereafter “Funaki version”), which is considered to be the work of Iwasa Matabē, a painter who was active in the early Edo period. The present author has examined the patterns and peculiarities in the depictions of people in the Funaki version through a comparison with those of Shichijū-ichi ban Shokunin Uta-awase (Poetry Contest by Various Artisans in 71 Rounds), which is a type of shokunin-e (illustrations of people of various occupations), as well as those of earlier examples of Rakuchū Rakugai zu. As a result, it was found that there are two types of representations in the Funaki version: the standard style, which is typical of early Rakuchū Rakugai zu and similar to the Kanō school's depiction of figures, and the atypical style, as seen in the depiction of courtesans, that is unique to the Funaki version among Rakuchū Rakugai zu Furthermore, by comparing the Funaki version with contemporaneous early modern genre paintings such as Kitano Shatō Yūraku zu(Depiction of Amusements at the Kitano Shrine) and Kawaguchi Yūri zu (Depiction of the Pleasure District in Kawaguchi), the author confirmed that such an “atypical” style as Funaki version could be the expansion of the shared concept of charming courtesans at that time. Matabē’sportrayal of people was based on the standard styles of both Rakuchū Rakugai zu and early modern genre paintings. |
