| 内容記述 | This study aimed to clarify the reality of students’ metacognitive activities during music appreciation classes in junior high school. Although metacognition is thought to influence students’ learning, research on metacognition in Japanese music classes is insufficient, especially in music appreciation classes. One factor contributing to this is the ambiguity of the term “appreciation.” In singing and instrumental music classes, skills such as correct singing and playing techniques are clear, and it is easy for students to grasp the goals they should aim for in class. Therefore, it is easy for students to monitor metacognitively the skills they lack and the issues they face toward their goals. This metacognition is considered to be facilitated with the support of the teacher. By contrast, in appreciation classes, it is difficult for students to grasp what skills they need to work on, and it is unclear what they should metacognitively monitor, and how they should metacognitively control their own cognition and activities that they have monitored. Therefore, in this study, we conducted a survey of a Kabuki “Kanjincho” class for second grade students of Junior High School A. Open coding analysis of the teacher’s utterances and students’ descriptions on worksheets and other materials during the class revealed that two types of metacognitive activities were conducted during the appreciation class: metacognitive activity (Pattern A), in which students made descriptions based on others’ findings that they did not have as a result of sharing opinions with others, and metacognitive activity (Pattern B), in which students described from a new perspective based on the findings of others. | |||||||||
