内容記述 This study revealed the problems present in research on opera and music theatre education, also showing some viewpoints to consider its pedagogical meaning, through an analysis of practitioner research in Japan. Although some practitioners’ reports and research have already been carried out, no pedagogical meaning of opera and music theatre education have been found, and some of the viewpoints they present seem superficial. It is thus necessary to form a pedagogical argument on the subject. Accumulation of reports and information on each educational practice is valuable to some extent, but understanding the pedagogical meaning is more important for revealing the significance of opera and music theatre education. Thus, this study provided an overview of previous research and attempted to clarify the issues. Consequently, it has organized the research into the following three perspectives: (1) promoting the creation of programs of opera and music theatre education; (2) opera and music theatre as an integrated music education; and (3) social and emotional skills. Each perspective presents its own possibility and issues, but there is a common element among these three perspectives—they all adopt a demonstrative approach. However, such demonstrative research is insufficient as it does not consider the typical features of opera and music theatre. It is important to substantiate the difference between opera, music theatre, and any other performing arts, especially theatre. To accomplish this task, theoretical research becomes crucial for revealing a significant reason for education in opera and music theatre. It also overlaps with a new movement in opera and music theatre research. In this field, interdisciplinary approaches have been recognized as one of the most important factors, and they are also necessary for the educational issues.
