内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Concerts are typically held after the choir camp in short-term choral events in Japan. These events are specifically targeted at the youth. The advantage of such events is that learners can gain the experience of creating music with new singers under the guidance of a professional conductor in a short period of time. Participants are expected to be able to read music, but no auditions are held as a prerequisite for joining the camp; therefore, many learners can take advantage of this opportunity. Few studies have investigated how learning motivation, learning enjoyment, and degree of participation in lifelong music learning are related to participation in such choir camps. This study aimed to examine the correlation among these three factors in the context of participants of a youth choir camp in Japan. In December 2019, a questionnaire survey was conducted with learners who participated in the X Youth Chorus Camp. Valid responses were obtained from 32 study participants. Findings revealed that the motivational factors of friendship, self-improvement, and expertise affected the practical enjoyment of the participants. Moreover, the motivational factors of friendship and self-improvement influenced diverse thinking. Learning enjoyment did not significantly affect the degree of participation in lifelong music learning. By contrast, learning motivation influenced the degree of participation in lifelong music learning. Through new relationships formed at the workplace and with other learners that cannot be experienced in the choir, learners can acquire knowledge about a wider music world. This is consistent with the founding purpose of the X Youth Chorus Camp. The results indicated that aspects, such as “learning that cannot be experienced in regular learning settings,” “interacting with new individuals,” and “acquiring expertise; knowledge; and skills,” are important for young learners to continue and reinforce their choral studies in the future. This element is related to their self-identity as a learner. Participating in a setting that is different from their usual learning environment and encountering new ideas may lead to the possibility of discovering a new learner identity that they were previously unaware of.
