| 内容記述 | This study was conducted to visually document the damage caused by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima City on 6 August 1945. Two illustrative maps depicting the state of the city after the bombing were developed with the help of hibakusha. The first illustration depicts the experience of Meiko Kurihara—a bombing survivor aged 19 at the time—encountering the burnt corpse of a dead infant while searching the city for her missing father. The second focuses on Syed Omar, a former Southeast Asian student who had spent time with Kurihara as an evacuee at the Hiroshima University of Letters and Science and later suffered from A-bomb disease. Kurihara’s mother nursed Omar in her presence as he lay resting inside the university building. Although these historical facts have been published in several books and papers, no illustrations have been presented. In addition, while there are some illustrations of the exteriors of the buildings with the evacuees at the university, none show their interiors and the events that unfolded inside. Therefore, this study presents illustrations of the two scenes to provide a more detailed understanding of the damage caused by the atomic bombing. Hence, from September to October 2024, in-depth interviews were conducted with Kurihara, mainly through phone calls and letters; she provided detailed inputs that helped in the creation of these illustrations, ultimately resulting in a visual reproduction of the two scenes. | |||||||||
