In this ongoing survey, university undergraduates and students from academies were asked about their basic knowledge of the atomic bombings, their assessment of the Nuclear Weapons Convention, the feasibility of nuclear abolition, their expectations of Japan as a country affected by atomic bombings, the impact of the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, and the anticipated influence of a potential second Trump administration on the nuclear abolition movement. Preliminary observations of students' views from 2021 to 2024 revealed that recent regional tensions and conflicts, such as those involving Russia and Ukraine, Palestine and Israel, and China and Taiwan, have heightened students' interest in security and Japan's wartime history, particularly the experience of the atomic bombings. While they upheld the abolition of nuclear weapons as the ultimate form of world peace, they also accepted the theory of nuclear deterrence. This trend reflects a growing awareness among the students of the complex relationship between ideals and reality concerning nuclear weapons. However, this sentiment is not merely resignation; it also represents a desire for viable
