| 内容記述 | This study aimed to clarify the strategies used to maintain face balance when Chinese learners of Japanese repeatedly gave positive responses to compliments in Japanese-Chinese contact situations. The analysis focused on the positive responses from a Chinese learner of Japanese within the compliment discourse and examined how mutual face balance was maintained during interactions with a Japanese native speaker. The results showed that the learner shifted between positive responses and avoidance responses in reaction to compliments from the native speaker on the same topic. Furthermore, after repeatedly giving positive responses in earlier topics, the learner was observed to maintain mutual face balance in later topics by voluntarily engaging in "self-FTAs" (face-threatening acts). | |||||||||||||
