First, we provide an overview of problems with the current grammatical syllabi and their solutions pointed out in previous research. Secondly, we raise some issues to consider when thinking about a new grammatical syllabus for intermediate and advanced levels, paying attention to these issues, from the perspective of grammar for production, using conditional expressions as its example. Thirdly, we introduce a new way of grasping the system of Japanese grammar from the viewpoints of pedagogical grammar of Japanese, which is important when considering the new syllabus.
