It also serves as an opportunity to reassess the position of Chinese returnees.\nThis study does not focus on the so-called “war orphans” but rather targets the third and fourth generations of returnees, who represent a significant social issue in contemporary Japan. Through the lens of family histories of Chinese returnees, the author explores the identity and potential of these individuals. Interviews were conducted with third- and fourth-generation Chinese returnees, who, while inheriting their family histories, are simultaneously shaping new narratives as a new generation.\nSpecifically, this research examines the individual lives of these third-and fourth-generation returnees to shed light on how they perceive their Chinese roots and how they confront their family and historical pasts.
