The purpose of this study is to explore the realities of the management and operation of one of such private schools run by slum residents and to identify the reasons for their sustainability through the lives of teachers working in challenging circumstances. Fieldworks were conducted in June 2022, March 2023, September 2023, and September 2024, each lasting about two weeks. While the research method was based on classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with teachers, questionnaire surveys were also carried out for students in higher grades. In addition, the study used data obtained from an e-mail-based “daily report” exchange with the headteacher that began in May 2023. In these daily reports, the headteacher is asked to describe and report in 500 to 1,000 words, from his own perspective, what they did, observed, and felt inside and outside of school from the time they woke up to the time they went to bed. The results of the study captured the management and operation of the low-fee private school from the following eight perspectives: (1) the delicate relationship with the county education office; (2) the issue of corruption and living practices; (3) school finances and its management; (4) exam-oriented teaching and the work of the headteacher; (5) external support and extracurricular activities; (6) employing teachers and paying their salaries; (7) teaching with the new curriculum; and (8) teachers’ lives and parental support.
