| 内容記述 | How a group’s representative figure perceives the whole situation in the world always reflects their opinions on their group’s or country’s position in the international community, which can help researchers understand the world situation facing the group or country. By analyzing the New Year’s Reflections published by Shozo Murata, a Japanese business mogul and shipping tycoon, at the beginning of 1937, this paper reveals that the business community represented by Shozo Murata, which advocated for free trade, also held the view that the world order at the time was unfair. They also believed that Japan, as an emerging state, should change the situation and prepare for both peace and war. These findings demonstrate, from one aspect, that mental preparation for war in Japan at the time was beginning to take shape. | |||||||||
