| 内容記述 | This paper compares and analyzes the frog imagery in Haruki Murakami’s Super-Frog Saves Tokyo and Mo Yan’s Frog. In Japan, frogs have symbolized earthquakes since ancient times, and the earthworm in the novel is also an animal associated with earthquakes. Haruki Murakami uses these two animal images associated with earthquakes in his novel Super-Frog Saves Tokyo to create two fictional characters, Frog-kun and Earthworm-kun, expressing humanity’s good wishes to prevent earthquakes after the Great Hanshin Earthquake. In addition, the use of fictional animal imagery in the novel to prevent the earthquake from hitting Tokyo, as well as the plot arrangement of animal characters gently encouraging humans, helps to distance the protagonist from reality and comfort people’s hearts after the earthquake. In China, by contrast, frogs are animals that represent vigorous fertility, and because they are pronounced the same as the Chinese goddess of creation “Nüwa,” the frog is also a symbol of the aunt and the family planning policy in Frog Singing. | |||||||||
