It is one of the most important waterfowl habitats in the western part of Hiroshima Bay, along with the mouth of the Yahata River. However, no reports have been published on the bird fauna that inhabits the area around the mouth of the Mitarai River. Therefore, we conducted surveys using the line census method 1–4 times per week from January 2017 to September 2023 to elucidate the bird fauna around the river.
