| 内容記述 | The Constitution of Japan, created after the World War II, appeared completely different from the previous Constitution of the Empire of Japan. While the previous Constitution, laws and official documents had been written in Katakana Bungo-tai (written style with the Chinese characters and the square Japanese syllabary), the new Constitution was written in Hiragana Kogo-tai (spoken style with the Chinese charasters and the cursive Japanese syllabary). The revolutionary changes in the Constitution extended not only to its content, but also to its appearance. On the basis of the English draft prepared by General Headquarters, what kind of Japanese-language constitution should be formulated? In this paper I attempt to retrace the history of constitution-making by focusing on changes in the “appearance” of the Constitution. |
