学習指導の改善に関する実証的・実践的研究は従来からも精力的になされているが, 今日においても生徒の学習状況の改善を必要としているのが現状である。わが国では, 論証は主として図形を通して学習される。「算数」においては, 図形の性質を直観的, 具体的な活動を通して発見することが主題となるのに対して, 「数学」においては, 図形の性質間の関係としての命題の真偽性が主題となる。つまり, 「算数」では, 図形の学習は発見の文脈に位置づけられるのに対して, 「数学」では図形の学習は正当化の文脈に位置づけられる。これら両者の学習指導上の文脈の違いが, 論証を学習困難な内容にしていると考える。以上の課題意識に基づき, 本研究は, 作図を図形教育における経験的認識から論理的認識への移行段階に位置づけ, 小学校での図形認識が中学校への図形認識へ, すなわち直観的, 具体的な図形理解から論証の理解へと至る「移行」を促すことのできる作図教材の開発を行い, その有効性を授業実践を通して確かめ,
