During the transition from singing to music departments, research, practice, and discussion on music education became active. This study clarifies the trend of music education in the United States at that time and the characteristics of each journal in detail by examining the Papers and Proceedings of the MTNA and Music Supervisors’ Journal, which was a music education journal of that period. Focusing on the articles on music appreciation education published in 1917 in the Papers and Proceedings of the MTNA and Music Supervisors’ Journal, it became clear that while many schools were equipped with gramophones and records, and music appreciation education became widespread, the disparities in the music environment between regions became a problem.
