| 内容記述 | Demosthenes Voutyras (Δημοσθένης Βουτυράς, 1872-1958) is regarded as one of the representative prose writers of the Generation of the '20s in Greek literature. He wrote a profuse number of short stories that differ in genre, ranging from urban realism, which depicts oppressed poor inhabitants of a city, to phantastic-dark stories, where a hidden supernatural world intrudes into our real one. This short paper attempts to discover the kinds of literary techniques of Voutyras that could produce such a wide variety in his works. Specifically, thirteen short stories selected from The Ship of the Death (Το καράβι του θανάτου), an anthology of phantastic-dark stories posthumously published in 2009, are examined. The analysis shows that, although a certain number of the stories have a strongly realistic flavor, the writer creates a phantastic-dark atmosphere throughout, using such rhetorical techniques as abstraction (αφαίρεση) and suggestiveness (υπαινικτικότητα). It is also argued that these techniques are often observed throughout his works, including the urban realistic stories, regardless of the genres, to form the characteristic co-existence of realistic and phantastic inclinations in the works of the same writer. | |||||||||
