The cation-exchange membrane reactor enhanced the conductivity of ammonium ion in the effluent of the IEC separation by 6-fold by converting ammonium hydroxide to potassium hydroxide by cation-exchange reaction with potassium hydroxide as a regenerant. The calibration graph was linear over the concentration range 0.5 to 5 mM.
