It means that 『孟子』 regarded the Confucius's voice and his real existence as important.    However 『荀子』 not only quotes the Confucius's speaking, but also let Confucius narrate freely by useing of direct discourse. Indeed 『荀子』 also regarded that the Confucius's voice and its real existence as important, but 『荀子』 is characterized by this narration, as a new function of the Confucius.
